A summary, to save you the time...

While the USDA and FDA have “action levels” for heavy metals and other contaminants, these are not legally binding and therefore do not require testing prior to distribution. Products are tested after they hit the market, and are recalled if certain action levels are exceeded.

In contrast, the EU uses a proactive approach that states maximum contaminant levels that are legally binding. By law, Holle is required to meet these testing requirements.

However, Holle has gone above and beyond what is required in the EU since 1934, by sourcing our raw materials from small, biodynamic farms. These closed-loop systems ensure a clean product with low levels of contaminants, and heavy metal levels not exceeding what would be naturally occurring in untainted soil.
